The third time wasn’t the charm for EMU’s volleyball men, as they dropped a road match at nationally ranked Southern Virginia University Tuesday night. The Royals had previously dropped both ends of a doubleheader to SVU to open the season on Saturday.
Set scores were 25-9, 25-19 and 25-19.
Eastern Mennonite made a notable improvement in their serve receive from the previous meetings, as they had just three serve receive errors. The men averaged 8.5 errors against the Knights on Saturday.
Jacob Durren (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) led Royals with four kills while Drew Bennett (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks) had nine set assists. Nate McGhee (Newport News, Va./Heritage) picked up six digs while Joshua Gomez (Puerto Montt, Chile/German School Puerto Montt) had four.
Southern Virginia got seven kills and three digs from Mark Stapley.
EMU heads to Randolph-Macon this Saturday for another CVC doubleheader. The first match in Ashland, Va., starts at 2:00pm.
