SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – After four years at the helm of the Union College women’s volleyball program, head coach Laura Krok has stepped down to pursue opportunities outside of college athletics, Director of Athletics Jim McLaughlin ’93 announced on Tuesday.
“We thank Laura for her commitment to the women’s volleyball program over the last four years and especially her guidance of our student-athletes,” McLaughlin said. “We wish her well as she embarks on a new professional opportunity and we look forward to seeing the program build on the foundation that has been put in place.”
“Thank you to the incredible student-athletes, colleagues, administrators and families who have impacted my time here at Union,” Krok said. “I am so appreciative of the learning opportunities, the camaraderie, and the relationships that I have experienced over the past four years. I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and following along with the success that I know this program will continue to achieve both on and off the court.”
In three years on the court with the Dutchwomen (Union did not compete in 2020 due to the pandemic), Union posted a 35-43 record. After back-to-back winning seasons in 2018 and 2019, this year Krok helped to develop a very young squad that included 13 players with no previous collegiate playing experience, providing a solid foundation for the future success of the program. The team also excelled in the classroom under her watch, combining for 21 Liberty League All-Academic Team honorees, including a program-record 10 selections this past season.
A national search for the new Union head women’s volleyball coach will begin shortly.
