Morgahn Fingall was named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while Yelianiz Torres received SEC Defensive Player of the Week. Caroline Kerr earned SEC Freshman of the Week recognition. For the season, the Big Orange has garnered 16 weekly honors from the conference.
Fingall, a graduate student right side from Fairfax, Va., averaged 4.57 kills and 1.57 digs per set to lead the Lady Vols to wins at Missouri and against Texas A&M. Fingall totaled 32 kills, 11 digs, four blocks and one assists in seven sets for the week. Against the Tigers, she finished with a match-high 17 kills and added seven digs and three blocks in the all-around performance. Against the Aggies, she once again led all players with 15 kills on .419 hitting to help UT to its 13th sweep of the season.
For the year, this marks Fingall’s third time being named SEC Offensive Player of the Week and the eighth time for her career. She’s the SEC leader in kills per set with 4.20 and spearheads Tennessee’s offensive attack that ranks second nationally in kills per set (14.70) and eighth in hitting percentage (.293).
Torres, a graduate student libero from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, spearheaded the Lady Vol defense that held opponents .161 hitting on the week thanks to her 5.43 digs per set on the back row. Torres led all players in digs during UT’s victories at Missouri and against Texas A&M. In Columbia, she finished with 21 digs, four assists and an ace. She followed that up by posting 17 digs—5.67 digs per set—during UT’s sweep against the Aggies.
It was the second time this year Torres earned SEC Defensive Player of the Week. She’s been solid on the back row all year, ranking fourth in the league with 4.08 digs per set. The Lady Vols are currently second in the SEC in the category.
Kerr, a redshirt freshman setter from Champaign, Ill., tallied 73 assists, 21 digs, four blocks and three kills in seven sets, helping the Lady Vols go 2-0 on the week with wins at Missouri and against Texas A&M. Kerr posted her fourth double-double of the season during the win against the Tigers, notching 40 assists, 15 digs and three blocks. Against the Aggies, she finished with 33 assists and six digs.
