Lewis’ Jacob Kerschner Named 2023 Thirty Under 30 Recipient


LEXINGTON, Ky. — The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced Thursday (April 27) that Lewis men’s volleyball assistant coach and alum Jacob Kerschner was recognized as a member of the Thirty Under 30 coaches. Kerschner is currently in his third season as assistant coach after spending 2015-2020 as a player for the Flyers. 

“I am excited and really proud of Jacob, “Lewis men’s volleyball coach Dan Friend said. “He has helped our program continue to develop and thrive. Jacob has excelled in multiple areas for us and the student athletes and our program have benefited from it.  He embodies what it means to be a part of the Lewis Community.” 

In his first year on staff, Kerschner helped the Flyers win the MIVA championship and advance to the Final Four. The past two seasons he has helped to guide the Flyers to the MIVA semifinals for the 15th straight year. Overall Lewis is 54-28 during Kerschner’s time on staff.

During his playing days, he played in 48 matches and appeared in 106 sets during his five seasons with the Flyers. Kerschner recorded a hitting percentage of .313 in his career.

He was a five-time recipient of the Brother David Delahanty Award – given to Lewis student-athletes for academic excellence and was also a five-time selection to the Academic All-MIVA team.  Kerschner received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a minor in athletic coaching from Lewis in 2020.

Kerschner has also been involved within the USA Volleyball coaching pipeline with multiple roles as an NTDP coach at both the regional and national training series.
