Lewis Men's Volleyball Announces Recruiting Class


ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University men’s volleyball coaching staff led by head coach Dan Friend has announced their 2024-25 recruiting class. In total, nine new faces will take the floor this season for the Flyers. The class is made up of a mix of local, national and international talent.

The Flyers ended last season with a 15-15 record overall while going 8-8 in conference play and being ranked 17th in the nation at the end of the season. Max Roquet (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) was named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American and earned First Team All-MIVA last season along with teammate Nico Paula (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Preparatory School). The Flyers saw 21 athletes earn Academic All-MIVA Awards, tying the MIVA Record. Tyler Morgan (Dike, Iowa/Dike-New Hartford) was named to Team USA Volleyball 2024 National Collegiate Men’s Team and Friend was named as Head Coach for USA Volleyball 2024 Beach Collegiate National Team.

“We are extremely excited about this year’s incoming recruiting class overall,” Friend said. “They bring a wide range of talent, athleticism, skill, and experience. This group is also from a variety of backgrounds which continues to add to our inclusive culture that we continue to foster. These young men will make a lasting impact both on the court and off the court for the Lewis men’s volleyball program.”

Ezra Boecking, 6’7″, OPP, Round Rock, Texas

Previous School: Meridian World School

Club Team: Austin Juniors

Intended Major: Economics

Three-time Texas State Champion in Boys’ Volleyball. As a sophomore, he was named offensive player of the year and the next two years he was named team MVP. During his senior year he achieved a .400 hitting percentage. 

Logan Chen, 6’7″, S, Lake Mary, Fla.

Previous School: Lake Mary

Club Team: Winter Park VBC

Intended Major: Health Science

One of three players in the class named to VolleyballMag Fab 50 list, which honors the top 50 senior-age players in the country. Played in the Florida Semi State Finals during his sophomore year of high school

Gavin Deep, 6’3″, OH, Ontario, Canada

Previous School: Blyth Academy

Club Team: Team Ontario           

Intended Major: Aviation Flight Technology
