Lewis Men's Volleyball Earns Comeback Victory over Queens Thursday


CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 14 Lewis University men’s volleyball team won, 3-1, at Queens University Thursday (March 21). Max Roquet (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) set new career highs with 23 kills and 16 digs in the victory.

SET BREAKDOWN

Set 1: Queens 25, Lewis 21

Queens earned the first extended scoring run of the match with a 4-0 charge to go ahead 8-5 early. Lewis battled back with a 3-0 run including two straight kills by Roquet to take an 11-10 lead later on.

Both sides traded points from there until the Royals used a 5-1 push to gain a 20-16 advantage. The Flyers got back within two points at 23-21 but Queens finished off the set with a kill and a service ace.

Set 2: Lewis 25, Queens 11

Lewis made sure it did not stay behind for long, taking a 4-1 lead to start the second set with a pair of kills from Davis. The Royals got within two points at 7-5 before the Flyers really took off.

Lewis used a 4-0 run to make it 11-5 as Davis had a solo block, block assist and kill in a row. Davis made sure he was the star of set two as he chipped in two kills and two blocks during a 5-0 charge for the Flyers that later brought the lead to 18-7.

Queens was never able to get much momentum the rest of the set and Lewis finished it off with back-to-back kills by Wesley Yusk (Casselberry, Fla./Lake Howell).

Set 3: Lewis 25, Queens 23

The Flyers again charged ahead 4-1 to start set three including a pair of aces by Drolsum. From there, points went back-and-forth until the Royals used a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 11-10.

Both sides went back to trading points until three straight errors by Queens, the last a solo block by Morgan, put Lewis ahead 19-16. The Royals charged right back with five of the next six points to take a slim 21-20 lead.

Lewis used a 3-0 run to go back ahead, 24-22, and after Queens took the next point, Roquet finished off the set with a kill.

Set 4: Lewis 25, Queens 14
