Lewis Men’s Volleyball Falls to Long Island Saturday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 12 Lewis University men’s volleyball team fell, 3-1, to Long Island Saturday (Jan. 27) at Neil Carey Arena.

SET BREAKDOWN

Set 1: LIU 25, Lewis 21

After LIU took the first point, Lewis charged to the lead on a 5-2 run with three kills. The Sharks took three of the next four to tie it and play went back-and-forth from there.

The Flyers held a slim 16-14 lead before a 5-0 run by LIU put the Sharks in front. Long Island never looked back, finishing the 25-21 set win with a service ace.

LIU hit .452 in the opening set, while Lewis hit .364.

Set 2: LIU 25, Lewis 23

The Sharks used a 6-1 run early in set two to grab a 7-3 lead and prompt an early Flyers timeout. Lewis took the next two points out of the timeout, and LIU kept the slim lead moving forward.

Later in the set, the Flyers jumped ahead, 20-19, with a 5-0 run. The Sharks answered with three points in a row before Lewis took the next two to tie the set, 23-23.

Back-to-back kills for LIU ended the set. Long Island outhit the Flyers, .207 to .139, in the set.

Set 3: Lewis 25, LIU 23

The Sharks took the first two points, but Lewis took four of the next five to grab a slim lead. After some back-and-forth play, another 4-1 run for the Flyers capped off by an ace by Prayer gave Lewis a 12-9 lead.

Later in the set, a 4-1 push by LIU gave the Sharks an 18-17 advantage. Shortly after, a 3-0 charge from Lewis, which included a kill and block assist from Sack, put the Flyers back on top at 21-19.

Things stayed tight until the end of the set, with Drolsum earning the kill to finish it. LIU committed eight service errors in set three.

Set 4: LIU 25, Lewis 22

Set four started tight, with neither side gaining much advantage. A 7-4 push from Lewis with three kills from Prayer put the Flyers ahead, 9-8.

The set stayed close until a 5-1 run for the Sharks made the score 16-13 LIU. Later, Lewis came charging back with a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 21-20 and Long Island called a timeout to…
