ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis men’s volleyball team starts its 2023 season this weekend against UC-Irvine Friday (Jan. 6) and BYU on Saturday (Jan. 7) on the campus of Brigham Young University.

UC-Irvine leads the all-time series but Lewis won the most recent meeting on January 9, 2020, in five sets.

BYU leads the all-time series between the two programs. The Cougars won the previous contest on May 6, 2021.
2022 in Review
Lewis went 16-12 last season and had a 7-7 mark in the Midwestern Volleyball Intercollegiate Association. The Flyers went to the MIVA Tournament Semifinals and losing to eventual MIVA Tournament Champion Ball State.
NCAA Division I-II Rankings
Lewis is ranked No. 14 in the Preseason NVA/AVCA Men’s Volleyball Division I-II Coaches Poll.
UC-Irvine is ranked No. 8 in the preseason poll while BYU is receiving votes.
Preseason All-MIVA
Lewis returns a wealth of experience to the team this season including Preseason All-MIVA Kevin Kauling (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and Max Roquet (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston), who bring huge numbers and a huge impact for 2023.
Kauling led the team last season with 751 assists which also ranked No. 5 in the MIVA and was second on Lewis with 141 digs.
Upcoming Homestand
Lewis has their home opener next Tuesday, January 10 as the Flyers take on Missouri S&T for Student Organization Night with the first of three home games during the week. The Flyers host King on Wednesday, January 11 at 7 p.m. CT for Club Night and will take on UC-San Diego Saturday, January 14 at 7 p.m. CT to wrap up the week for Polar Bear Night.
