Lewis Women’s and Men’s Volleyball Traveling for European Tour


ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — The Lewis University women’s and men’s volleyball teams will be playing and learning during their Lewis University European Volleyball Tour, July 25-August 6. In addition to competing against various European teams, the American university student-athletes will be earning credit for a history class, which is a general elective requirement. 

“We are all extremely excited for such a unique opportunity to train, compete and tour through Europe,” Lorelee Smith, Lewis women’s volleyball head coach said. 

The two programs will tour, visit and play in three countries in Europe including Italy, Czech Republic and Slovenia throughout the trip. Athletes will learn about the Lasallian Mission, world history relevant to each perspective area, and take several tours through historic monuments and landmarks all while experiencing the different cultures and customs.

“I’m extremely excited for an opportunity to travel with this team to Europe with Tim Kelly and Bring it Promotions,” Dan Friend, Lewis men’s volleyball head coach said. “We have had tremendous support from Lewis, our family’s and our friends of the program to help make this trip happen. It will be a great opportunity to jump start our season, learn some new and historic culture, along with representing Lewis University.”

Both teams will arrive in Prague, Czech Republic July 26. The teams will be in the Czech Republic for three days before departing for three days before departing for Maribor, Slovenia.

Both teams will visit the Prague Castle and Charles Bridge Area in addition to playing their first matches. The men’s team will play at 4 p.m. July 27 against Kladno and the women’s team will play Olymp Tram at 4:30 p.m. July 27.

On July 28, both teams will tour in Old Town Square of Prague before competing in a pair of matches as the men take on Kladno at 4 p.m. and the women play Olymp Tram at 4:30 p.m. then will have dinner in Prague. 

On their way to Slovenia, the team will stop in Vienna, Austria, and then will arrive in Maribor for dinner in the Dras Center on July 29.

Both teams will train in the Dras Center on July 30 before riding a chair lift up Pohorje Mountain for lunch then ride down on the Alpine Slide. Both teams will have dinner that evening at Koca Hut on top of Pohorje Mountain with a private…
