INDIANAPOLIS — The Lewis University women’s volleyball team swept the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds 3-0 Saturday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) contest.

SET BREAKDOWN vs. UIndy

Set 1: Lewis 25, UIndy 15

Saturday afternoon’s match began with an early Greyhound lead, Lewis scored their first point iof the match off of a block by Buxton and Mallory Januski (Bourbonnais, Ill./Valparaiso). The two squads went back and fourth during the beginning of the first set until Lewis gathered a four point run due to three attack errors and a kill by Buxton. 

The Greyhounds responded with a three point run of their own, however the Flyers launched another four point run off of a service error, kills by Buxton and Alvey and a combined block by Buxton and Ray. Lewis continued to hammer home points with short two and three point runs, then a kill by Stefanski off of a set by Kaczorowski gave the Flyers a first set victory. 

Set 2: Lewis 25, UIndy 23

A close second set began with a kill from the Greyhound which the Flyers matched with four straight kills from Januski, Ray and Buxton. UIndy sprinkled in a few more points shortly after to which Lewis hit the Greyhounds with a five point run off of kills by Alvey, Stefanski, Ray and Gracie Schultz (Minonk, Ill./Fieldcrest High School) with a service ace by Alvey.

Down 10-4, the Greyhounds battled back to make the set more competitive putting up short runs of their own to close the distance between the two teams. Another three-point run from Lewis widened the gap again but UIndy stayed in the fight with more scoring.

Lewis fell behind after a UIndy three point run putting the Flyers at a three 22-20 deficit. Two kills by Ray and Stefanski tied the game but the Greyhounds launched another kill moving them closer to victory. The Flyers bounced back with three points due to a kill by Schultz, a block by Buxton and Januski finished off by an attack error, giving Lewis the second set.
