Lewis Women’s Volleyball Falls to No. 12 Missouri-St. Louis Saturday


Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo.  — The Lewis University women’s volleyball team won the first set against No. 12 Missouri St. Louis however the Tritons recorded three straight set wins to capture the 3-1 victory Friday (Oct. 11).

SET BREAKDOWN vs. Missouri St. Louis

Set 1: Lewis 25, Missouri-St. Louis 18

Lewis started off the first set with an early 6-1 lead after an ace from Kaczorowski and a kill by Ray.  Missouri-St. Louis tried to mount a comeback after making it 17-11 in favor of the Flyers but that was the closest the Tritons got in the opening set.

The Flyers got back-to-back kills from Mya Bajramovic (Cary, Ill./West Virginia Wesleyan) and Lauren Buxton (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) to give Lewis an 19-11 advantage. Lewis closed out the set with a kill from Ray and an ace from Hickey to win it 25-18.

Set 2: Missouri-St. Louis 25, Lewis 9

Lewis led 4-1 early in the second set after back-to-back kills from Alvey but then it would be all UMSL. The Tritons outscored the Flyers 24-5 the rest of the second.

The last time the Flyers led it was 6-5 after another kill from Alvey but it was 19-4 the rest of the way. Missouri-St. Louis scored the last 11 points in the second to take the set 25-9.

Set 3: Missouri-St. Louis 25, Lewis 22

The Flyers jumped out to an early 4-2 lead after back-to-back kills from Ray and Stefanski. The Tritons responded with two straight points of its own to tie it at 4-4. 

Both teams went back-and-forth for most of the set with no team leading by no more than two. Lewis went up 16-15 after Emma O’Neill (Papillion, NE/Papillion La Vista South) recorded a kill but after that it was all UMSL as the Tritons took it 25-22.
