SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Lewis University women’s volleyball team took down Illinois-Springfield 3-1 Friday (Nov. 10).

SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: Lewis 25, UIS 18
Lewis started strong, pulling out to a 5-2 lead. The Prairie Stars returned the strong start with a 4-0 run, taking the lead 6-5. The score went back-and-forth for the remainder of the set with no team gaining a large edge.
The Flyers pushed ahead at the very end, going on a 6-0 run with five kills to make the score 24-16 and later closing out the set with a win.
Set 2: Lewis 25, UIS 19
After Lewis took a thin lead early at 3-2, UIS came back and took its own early lead with a 4-0 run. Soon after that, the Flyers answered back with a 4-0 push, retaking the lead with a score of 7-6.
From that point, both teams battled back-and-forth until Lewis broke the pattern with an emphatic 7-0 run to take the lead 17-11. Lewis later closed out the second set with a kill by Schlechte.
Set 3: UIS 25, Lewis 19
The Prairie Stars came out aggressive in the third set, taking a controlling 6-1 lead after beginning with two separate 3-0 runs. The Flyers worked to cut down the deficit to three points with a score of 15-12 after a 5-1 run.
From there, UIS worked its own 5-2 scoring burst and improved the lead back to 20-14. Lewis could only get the deficit back down to four for the remainder of the set before the Prairie Stars finished it with a kill.
Set 4: Lewis 25, UIS 23
UIS dominated the opening of the fourth set with a 5-0 run solidifying its lead. Later, the Prairie Stars improved the lead to a score of 9-3 after a 3-0 run, soon later it struck again with a 5-1 run against Lewis to take a commanding 16-9 lead.
From there, the Flyers marched back with a demanding 7-2 push, narrowing the deficit to two points. Lewis recaptured the lead late with a 3-0 run, going ahead…
