Former University of Missouri volleyball player Lindsey Hunter will be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2024.
Hunter (2002-05) and former Mizzou football player Justin Britt (2010-13) headline the Hall of Fame Class that will be recognized on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds in Springfield, Missouri.
Hunter, a native of Papillion, Nebraska, was viewed as the key player on Mizzou volleyball teams that enjoyed a most successful run in the early 2000s. She was inducted into the Missouri Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
Hunter led Mizzou to the winningest season in school history to date in 2005 (25-5) and MU’s first appearance in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. That season also included a top-10 national ranking for the first time in school history.
Mizzou went 90-33 during her four years on the floor. She was Mizzou’s first American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) First-Team All-American, earning the honor after her senior season of 2005, when she directed an offensive attack that hit a school-record .299.
Hunter led the Big 12 Conference in assists each of her four seasons, becoming the first to lead the league for four years in any category.
She was a three-time First-Team All-Big 12 and AVCA All-Central Region selection.
When she ended her career, she ranked sixth in NCAA history for assists per game (13.73), and her total of 6,096 career assists was 15th-most in NCAA history.
She left as Mizzou’s career record holder in assists and held three of the top four single-season assist totals in school history, including the top two.
After her Mizzou career, Hunter played internationally for USA Volleyball, and was part of the bronze medal-winning team in the 2007 Pan American Games.
Hunter was voted by Tiger fans as the Mizzou Women’s Athlete of the Decade for the 2000s, and prior to that, was named as Mizzou Volleyball Athlete of the Decade.
She worked for Mizzou’s Total Person Program from 2011 to 2015, and then returned to Columbia in 2011 for a stint as MU assistant volleyball coach, helping the 2013 team capture the Southeastern Conference Championship.
Hunter currently is a senior loan officer with Veterans United Home Loans in Yukon, Oklahoma.
