COLUMBIA, Ky. – At Biggers Sports Center, the Campbellsville defense stifled everything the Blue Raider volleyball team threw at it en route to a three-set decision in the season’s first edition of the “Battle of Highway 55.”

From the opening serve, the Tigers stood strong on the back line and around the net, finishing with 60 digs and eight total blocks. In doing so, Lindsey Wilson was limited to less than 30 total kills for only the third time this season.

Senior Alexis Smith led the local’s offense with eight kills, while fellow senior Camryn Rich posted her eighth double-double of the year with a team-high 19 assists and 13 digs.

In front of a packed house, the visitors got their way early with an 8-3 scoring run in the opening set. Then, the Blue Raiders got the hometown crowd fired up with a sequence of attacks from Alix Stoermer, Aleksandra Wyrzkowska, and Smith to swiftly knot the score at 14-14.

Following a Campbellsville timeout, the Tigers strung together three-straight points but were pushed back by a 5-0 swing by the Blue Raiders, highlighted by back-to-back service aces by Natalie Ackermann and a pair of successful attacks by Savanah Pippin.

From that point on, however, it was all Campbellsville, despite Lindsey Wilson sticking right at their tail to only drop the first frame by a couple of points, 26-24.

The final two sets of the evening each saw the Tigers rush out to extensive leads that the home side could never fully recover from, ultimately resulting in the clean sweep on the scoresheet.

Lindsey Wilson has almost a full week of rest before resuming its homestretch on September 27 against the University of Cumberlands. The Patriots will come to Columbia next Tuesday for a 6 p.m. CST start time.
