COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Battle of Highway 55 is moving up north this week as Lindsey Wilson College and Campbellsville University are set to square off on the volleyball court for the second time this season and 59th time in the history of the two programs.

Three weeks ago, inside Biggers Sports Center, the Tigers shocked the Blue Raiders with their first sweep in the series since 2012. Since then, the locals have orchestrated three consecutive victories, including most recently over the conference’s last remaining unbeaten team in Thomas More University on Saturday.

Campbellsville is 5-2 since its win against Lindsey Wilson back in September. One of those losses came at the hands of the Saints last Friday, effectively revoking the Tigers’ unblemished status versus Mid-South opponents.

Even still, Campbellsville remains a force to be reckoned with. Under the leadership of newly-named head coach and former Blue Raider Peyton Johnston, the Tigers hold the league’s best digs per set ratio at 18.1, as well the second-highest kills per set mark.

Sophomore Molly Shannon, who put down 11 kills earlier this season against Lindsey Wilson, actively ranks fourth in the conference with an average of 3.44 kills per set. Fellow sophomore Cierra Merrick falls in not far behind with a mark of 2.48, while her older sister Paige Merrick sits sixth among the Mid-South’s leading setters with 531 total assists.

Defensively, Andrea Laboy leads the conference’s top digging school with 257, followed by Paige Merrick’s 203 digs.

As for Lindsey Wilson, the Blue Raider attack has been relentless since last seeing Campbellsville. Over the last three matches, the locals are hitting just north of 30 percent with 161 kills. Seniors Alexis Smith (0.449), Camryn Rich (0.440), and sophomore Savanah Pippin (0.405) are each striking for over 40 percent during that span to help push the team to an overall attack percentage of 0.221, the second-best in the Mid-South behind only Cumberland University’s 0.222.

Elsewhere on the floor, junior Natalie Ackermann currently ranks eighth in the league with a digs per set mark of 3.29, and sophomore Embry Burgess is up to 146 total digs on the season after having picked up 54 across her last three outings.

Thursday’s showdown at Gosser Gymnasium will include live stats and video and is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CST.
