McKENZIE, Tenn. – Where one win streak ends, another begins. The Blue Raider volleyball team, having entered Monday in the midst of a drought, rekindled its winning ways with a 3-1 decision over Bethel University, effectively halting the Wildcats’ win streak after three matches.
The local’s victory avenges a defeat handed down by the ‘Cats earlier in the season in Columbia, and pushes Lindsey Wilson back to 0.500 against conference opponents heading into Tuesday’s bout at Freed-Hardeman University.
For the second consecutive match, and the third instance in the last four matches, sophomore Savanah Pippin paced the Blue Raider offense with a team-high in kills and a plus-0.400 attack percentage. The middle hitter finished with 13 successful attacks on 21 attempts while committing only two errors to give her an evening-best 0.524 attacking mark. This stands as her sixth effort of 2022 in which she has turned in a hitting percentage above 0.500.
Elsewhere offensively, Camryn Rich recorded 32 of the Blue Raiders’ 33 total assists. The senior also tied a personal season-high with two service aces, while Natalie Ackermann closed the night with three aces from the service line.
Lindsey Wilson took advantage of Bethel’s slow start to run away with the first set, as the Wildcats totaled 15 different errors, including 10 on the attack alone. On the other hand, Aleksandra Wyrzkowska and Pippin combined for seven kills to help the locals keep their distance en route to a 25-12 opening-set victory.
The hosts began to find a rhythm in the second set, at one point using a 7-1 run to open up a 17-11 lead. Another positive strike by Pippin, however, swiftly started to turn the tables in the visitor’s favor, and additional kills from Rich and Elizabeth Moore ultimately aided the Blue Raiders’ back to level ground at 20-20.
