Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand, September 23, 2024 – Vietnam’s LPBank Ninh Binh bagged a straight-sets match 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22) over the Philippines’ Monolith Sky Risers in Pool B of the 2024 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship.
Captain Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen bagged a massive 24 points during Monday afternoon’s meet at Chartchai Hall for the Vietnam club’s first victory in the competition.
LPBank Ninh Binh started off with such a strong statement, showing their dominance over their opponents. They enabled such a powerful attack unit, led by their captain, with an equally effective Nguyen Thi Trinh manning the middle.
Monolith Sky Risers tried to keep up with their opponents, firming up the defense department, and setting up their attacks with more accuracy. Alyssa Jae Solomon and Mhicaela Belen starred as the main hitters for the squad, contributing 14 and 13 points respectively.
But the Vietnam club further could not give away so much time nor space for their opponents to stage a real claim to the match. They imposed a solid block formation, closing off any possibility for their opponents to spark a scoring run.
The young Philippine squad devised ways, including key changes in the line-up, to try and address the challenge. They succeeded in several plays, but when blocks came across, they needed to find solutions to work around the block; solutions that eventually led to miscalculated errors.
Meanwhile, LPBank Ninh Binh stuck to their starters all throughout, maintaining a balance of power and smarts to succeed with straight sets.
On Tuesday, September 24, LPBank Ninh Binh will face Iran’s Saipa Club in the 10:00 match, followed by Monolith Sky Risers against Japan’s NEC Red Rockets Kawasaki in the 13:00 encounter. All times local.
