Bears Rookie Averaged 4.75 Kills, 2.13 Digs Per Set Over Weekend
California volleyball’s Maggie Li moved further up the conference record books on Monday as she was honored with her sixth Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award following a combined 38-kill performance against the L.A. schools.
Li’s 15 kills against No. 24 USC on Friday was a team-high; she also posted 10 digs for her 11th double-double of the season. She led the way with a match-high 23 kills to lead the Bears to their first win over UCLA since 2018 on Sunday, finishing off each of Cal’s set wins with a kill and ending the match with three straight scores.
Cal’s star freshman is now tied for the second-most rookie awards in conference history. She has also matched Cal great Mia Jerkov (2001-03) for the most Pac-12 weekly awards in her career and is in sole possession of the most in a single season. Currently, Li ranks among the top-four freshmen in the nation and top-four overall Pac-12 players in kills (432), points (481.5), kills per set (4.00) and points per set (4.46).
Li and the Bears will be back in action on Wednesday at home against Colorado at 1 p.m. PT and will finish off the 2023 season at No. 2 Stanford on Friday at 7 p.m.
