UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State’s Alexa Markley was named the Big Ten Women’s Volleyball Freshman of the Week on Monday. She earned the award after a strong performance that helped the Lions post road wins over Indiana and No. 15 Purdue over the weekend.
Markley averaged 3.50 points/set, 3.00 kills/set, and 0.71 blocks/set in Penn State’s two wins. She excelled in the matchup of nationally-ranked teams at Purdue, totaling 13 kills and two blocks in the four-set victory. She had eight kills and three blocks in a sweep over the Hoosiers.
Markley received the Big Ten Freshman of the Week award for the first time of her career.
Penn State jumped two spots to No. 14 in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll. The Lions have four matches remaining in the regular season, starting with a pair at Rec Hall this weekend. They host No. 9 Minnesota on Friday at 8:30 p.m., and No. 3 Wisconsin on Saturday at 8 p.m. Both matches will air live on B1G Network.
