TEMPE – To prepare for the 2024 season and give fans a first look at the squad, Sun Devil Volleyball is holding its annual Maroon and Gold Scrimmage this Saturday, August 24, at 1 p.m. MST in Mullett Arena.
The free scrimmage is back in Mullett Arena for the second year in a row. It will give fans a first look at Arizona State’s 2024 squad under second-year head coach JJ Van Niel. The event will see the team play at least four sets with no fixed teams.
Prior to the action, head coach JJ Van Niel will address the crowd. Following the game, there will be a meet and greet with the team on the court for all fans. Additionally, there will be staff on the concourse selling early bird season tickets, and this will be the final opportunity to purchase those.
The event is free to the public and those attending can park in lot 59 for free, which will be the usual free parking option all season no matter the arena. There will be a clear bag policy. There will be no live stream or live scoring.
The Sun Devils are coming off one of their best seasons in program history, which included a trip to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. They are ranked No. 17 in the 2024 AVCA Preseason Poll, the first preseason ranking for the program since 2015 when they were picked at No. 16. ASU lost three key starters, but the team returns four main starters and brings in more firepower. There are three transfers ready to immediately participate and four freshmen ready to make an impact. The season preview posted last week provides a breakdown of each student-athlete by position.
