Cortland women’s volleyball senior libero/defensive specialist Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight year, and she is one of four Red Dragons who earned all-league honors. Martens, senior middle blocker Alexa Guedez (Mamaroneck/Rye Neck) and senior outside hitter Anna Pilkey (Ballston Spa) were chosen to the all-league first team and sophomore outside hitter Kyrah Wilbur (Syracuse/Baldwinsville) earned a spot on the second team.
Martens earned all-league honors for the third straight year. She was a third-team honoree in 2022 and a first-team selection last fall. In 98 sets over 31 matches, Martens has recorded a SUNYAC-high 493 digs along with a .971 serve reception percentage and 39 aces. In nine regular-season league matches, she totaled 102 digs, 12 aces and a perfect 1.000 serve reception percentage in 97 attempts.
Guedez is a four-time All-SUNYAC selection; she’s been named to the first team each of the last three years and was on the second team in 2021. Through 90 sets over 30 matches, she has 203 kills, a .330 attack percentage, 15 aces and a SUNYAC-leading 99 blocks. In nine regular-season league contests she posted a .456 attack percentage (52 kills, five errors in 103 attempts) with 28 blocks and five aces.
Pilkey repeats as a first-team all-league honoree. She was the SUNYAC Player of the Year in 2023. In 90 sets covering 31 matches, she has 272 kills, a .241 attack percentage, 44 aces, 220 digs and 31 blocks. In nine regular-season SUNYAC contests she recorded a .311 attack percentage (68 kills, 16 errors in 167 attempts) with 17 aces, 62 digs and 10 blocks.
Wilbur is in her first season with the Red Dragons after transferring from the University at Albany. She played in her first match of the season on Oct. 11 after missing more than a month due to injury. Wilbur has appeared in 40 sets over 13 matches and had 111 kills, a .216 attack percentage, 15 aces, 103 digs and 19 blocks. She played in seven SUNYAC regular-season matches, totaling 61 kills, a .250 attack percentage, 49 digs, 10 blocks and five aces.
Cortland (26-5) won its fourth straight SUNYAC title, going 9-0 in the league’s regular season for the fourth consecutive year. The Red Dragons did not lose a set against any SUNYAC…
