Martin Earns All-SEC and All-Freshman Honors

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kennedy Martin was placed on this year’s All-SEC and All-Freshman Southeastern Conference Teams, as announced by the league Sunday.

The freshman from South Carolina led the Gators in kills per set during the regular season with 4.35, highest in the conference. She finished with 10 or more kills in every match during the 2023 season and has registered the most kills so far by any freshman in Florida history with 457 total kills, surpassing Ziva Recek’s 440 record that was set in 2012.

Kennedy leads Florida in points per set with 5.19, also good for second in the SEC.

Her career-high 28 kills against then No. 11 Tennessee on Nov. 3 and her 27 kills against then No. 13 Kentucky on Nov. 5 marks the first time since 2001 that a Florida player has recorded 50+ kills in back-to-back matches.

Martin grabbed SEC Overall Player of the Week and SEC Offensive Player of the Week after her performance in the Orange and Blue this season. She earned her second SEC Overall/Offensive Player of the Week title of her career after she averaged 5.17 kills per set with a .343 clip, to go along with 1.83 digs, 0.83 blocks, 0.50 aces per set and 6.17 points per set against then No. 2 Stanford and then No. 5 Minnesota. The freshman then earned her third SEC weekly honor, grabbing SEC Freshman of the Week to become the first Florida freshman to earn an SEC honor each of their first three weeks in the program.

On Aug. 29, Kennedy Martin was named the AVCA National Division I Player of the Week for her performances against Penn State and South Florida, being the first Florida freshman to win the honor as well as the first to do so after her first weekend of play.
