Maryland Recognizes 48 Graduate Student-Athletes With Special Patch

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Following a bold initiative started three seasons ago, 48 Maryland student-athletes will don “GRADUATE” patches on their uniforms in 2024-25, recognizing their accomplishment of receiving an undergraduate degree from Maryland or an other four-year institution as they compete for the Terrapins this year.

Brady Rourke, Associate Athletic Director and the Director of the Gossett Student Athlete Center (GSAC), takes pride in that number and lauds the faculty and staff for making the postgraduate programs enticing.

“Maryland continues to enroll very talented student-athletes in graduate and graduate certificate programs,” Rourke said. “The breadth of graduate program opportunities continues to attract student-athletes with impressive undergraduate credentials from institutions across the country. The graduation patch visually represents the ultimate accomplishment associated with the student-athlete experience. It is inspiring to witness the drive and determination of student-athletes who don the patch and continue their educational journey as graduate students. University of Maryland Graduate Program Director’s and Graduate Admissions staff are phenomenal colleagues who believe in the student-athlete experience and value the experience, perspective, and skill student-athletes bring to the classroom.

Additionally, 22 of the graduate students are double-Terps, student-athletes who will finish with both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Maryland.
