McGrath Earns Second Weekly Honor, Named LL Rookie of the Week


TROY, N.Y. – First-year Shannon McGrath of the Union College women’s volleyball team was recognized by the Liberty League for the second time this season, earning Conference Rookie of the Week honors for the week ending Sunday, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
 
McGrath was previously named the Liberty League Player of the Week on September 12, making her the only first-year volleyball player to earn Player of the Week honors so far in 2022.
 
McGrath put down 42 kills on .230 hitting with 12 aces and 27 digs in 13 sets last week as Union split four matches. She had a huge outing on Wednesday in a conference clash against Vassar College, putting down a season-high 20 kills on .313 hitting and added 16 digs for her third straight double-double in a 3-0 win as Union moved to 2-1 in conference play. She also hit .600 in an 3-0 sweep of Fitchburg State University and added 10 kills, five aces and seven digs against Suffolk University in  tri-match on Saturday.
 
The first-year has been Union’s leader at the net all season, putting down 202 kills on .212 hitting, while also leading the team with 40 service aces, ranking second with 144 digs and sitting fourth with 20 assists. She leads the Liberty League in kills and ranks second in aces and points so far this year, and also enters the week 28th nationally in aces and 39th in points.
 
McGrath and Union will return to action on Saturday at Ithaca College beginning at 2 p.m.
