Men’s volleyball avenges loss, beats Lancaster Bible in five

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. — The Elizabethtown College men’s volleyball team avenged an earlier season loss in five sets to Lancaster Bible by beating the Chargers in five on Saturday at Thompson Gym. Arun Gopinath had a match-high 19 kills for the Blue Jays.

Elizabethtown and Lancaster Bible alternated set winners through the first four. The Chargers rallied and took set one, 28-26.

The Blue Jays battled back and came out with a close two-point set-two victory, 26-24, to even the match at 1-1.

In the third, the Chargers put themselves within a set of winning the match after taking set three, 25-20.

Etown forced a fifth set with another close set victory, taking the fourth 25-23.

The Jays led early in the fifth and kept that lead as they pulled out a 15-13 set victory to give them the 3-2 match win.

Gopinath was one of three Jays with double-digit kills. Joining him were Declan Keller with 14 and Braydon Ambruster with 13. Ethan Scott totaled 29 assists and Patrick Neyer had 16. Dustin Hagin led EC defensively with 21 digs. Gopinath (2), Keller (2), and Josh McCoy (1) each had solo blocks.

Elizabethtown plays at Messiah on Wednesday, February 19, at 7 p.m.
