Men’s Volleyball Falls to Neumann

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University men’s volleyball team was back in action on Wednesday night when they hosted Neumann University at Alumnae Hall. Immaculata fell to Neumann 3-0 (16-25, 21-25, 20-25).

BY THE NUMBERS

Immaculata was led by Josh McGurl with 10 kills, two service Aces, and five digs. Brandon Lieberman had eight kills, and one total block. Michael Prall had four kills. Joe Martel distributed 23 assists and had a team high seven digs. Jack Debes had four total blocks, and Matthew Pfister had six digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing early in the first set, Immaculata took a 3-2 lead as Joe Martel served two straight points. Neumann used a four-point run to retake the lead at 6-3. Neumann went on a six-point run later and went on to take the first set 25-16.

In the second set, Immaculata took a 2-0 as Joe Martel served two consecutive points that included a kill by Michael Prall. Josh McGurl would later serve consecutive service aces to pull Immaculata back within one point at 9-8. Neumann would respond with a 6-1 run. Michael Prall served back-to-back points, and Josh McGurl and Brandon Lieberman would each earn kills as Immaculata closed Neumann lead to 20-18. Neumann would go to take set two 25-21.

In set three the teams exchanged points early. Josh McGurl, Brandon Fox, and Jack Debes all had kills as Immaculata fought back to pull within one point trailing 13-12. Neumann would use a three-point run and a four-point run to close out the 3-0 win taking set three 25-20.
