ASHLAND, Va. – The Royals men’s volleyball team squared off with Randolph-Macon on Wednesday, facing the Yellow Jackets for the second time this season.

Unlike the first time, it was Randolph-Macon who picked up the win on Wednesday, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-17)

Records: EMU 10-12, 1-5 CVC | Randolph-Macon 12-14, 3-5 CVC

Highlights

  • The Royals started out ahead 4-3 in set one, picking up three straight on a pair of RMC errors and a Walter Spurlock kill. The teams traded points back-and-forth until, with things tied at 16, EMU went on a 4-2 run with a kill from Nate McGhee and a block from AJ Bagby and Tyler Oaks. But, with EMU leading 20-18, RMC ended the set on a 7-0 run to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Just like in set one, EMU jumped out to a quick lead in set two, with an error and a block from Babgy and David Ward. The teams traded points to 7-7 before RMC pulled ahead for a slim lead. The Yellow Jackets would hold a small advantage, extending their lead to as many as five, 21-16, before EMU picked up three straight off an error and kills from Spurlock and Ward, to pull within two. But much like the first set, the Yellow Jackets would end the set on a run, this time 4-1, to win the second set and take a 2-0 lead.
  • After RMC scored the first point of set three, EMU went on a 4-0 run with points from Spurlock and Ben Childers, to move ahead 4-1. The Yellow Jackets answered with an 9-0 tilt before a service error broke the RMC streak. EMU was able to pull within seven late with a 4-1 run, highlighted by a kill from Childers and blocks from Childers/McGhee and Ward/Childers. The Royals continued to fight, picking up two kills from Ward to keep EMU within seven before a Yellow Jackets kill ended the match.

Statistical Leaders
