Men’s Volleyball falls to Valley Forge in Five Set Thriller

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa.- The Immaculata University men’s volleyball team fell to the University of Valley Forge in a five-set thriller. The set scores were 25-22, 17-25, 25-21, 21-25, and 13-15. 

The Mighty Macs were led by John Bohrer who recorded 16 kills and added six service aces. Jack Debes had 10 kills. Joe Martell distributed 28 assists and added eight digs. On the defensive side, Immaculata was led by Matthew Pfister with eight digs, and Brandon Fox with five blocks. 

In the first set, Immaculata was trailing early 4-2, before quickly tying the score at 4-4 behind consecutive serving aces by John Bohrer. Later in the set Immaculata would use a five-point run to take a 24-20 lead. Immaculata would go on to take the first set 25-22. 

In set, two Valley Forge used a five-point run of their own to take a commanding 21-13 lead. Valley Forge would take the second set 25-17. 

Immaculata would take the third set 25-21. Valley Forge would bounce back in set four sending the match to a fifth deciding set, winning 25-21.  

In the fifth set Immaculata found themselves trailing 8-5, before rallying to tie the set at 8-8 behind kills from Thomas Pierce, Joe Martell, and John Bohrer. Trailing 14-12, the Macs fought off a match point on a Kill by Jack Debes. Valley Forge would close out the match winning 15-13 in the fifth set. 

The Immaculata men’s volleyball team (2-5, overall) will be back in action on Saturday, February 11, when they travel to Misericordia for a tri-match with Misericordia and Messiah. Immaculata will play…
