Michigan Bounces Back With Stellar Blocking in Sweep of North Carolina

» Jess Mruzik led all players in kills with 15 and recorded 10 digs to record her third double-double of the season.

DURHAM, N.C. — Led by a 10-block team performance — including a match-leading six from Jacque Boney — the University of Michigan volleyball team swept North Carolina (25-20, 26-24, 25-23) on Saturday (Sept. 10) at Carmichael Center.

Offensively, Jess Mruzik had 14 kills and Jess Robinson hit .471. Defensively, Michigan also was led by Hannah Grant, who recorded 17 digs, while Scottee Johnson led the Wolverines in with 19 assists and Maddie Dowd chipped in 17.

There were two lead changes in the first set, and the set was tied five different times. U-M started to pull away with Grant at the service line providing a 6-0 run. UNC pulled within one point before Robinson and Boney combined for Michigan’s last three points. Boney led all players in the first set with four kills and two blocks.

The Wolverines got out to a quick start in set two behind Kendall Murray at the service line. Michigan kept that lead until UNC tied it up at 14 after a couple of attacking errors by Michigan. Mruzik and Murray capitalized on perfect sets courtesy of Dowd and Grant to end the second set 26-24.
