LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Michigan volleyball team earned the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the third consecutive time, the AVCA announced Monday (July 18).
The 2021-22 honor comes on the heels of its first following the 2019-20 season, representing the program’s first USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award nod, and a repeat performance last season. The award, instituted in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
“We are extremely proud of our team for being selected for this award for the third year in a row,” said head coach Mark Rosen. “It’s very difficult and challenging for our team being at such a high-academic university. We are very proud of their focus and success in the gym, but more importantly, being successful in the classroom.”
The Wolverines placed 13 student-athletes on the 2021 Fall Academic All-Big Ten team, while Amber Beals, Haley Hallgren, Paige Jones, and Jess Robinson earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors from the conference last Thursday (July 14).
