Michigan Falls to No. 11 Minnesota in Straight Sets at Crisler

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team fell to No. 11 Minnesota in straight sets (12-25, 22-25, 13-25) on Friday (Oct. 7) at Crisler Center.

Michigan (12-3, 3-2 Big Ten) was led by Jess Mruzik and May Pertofsky on the attacking front, combining for 18 of Michigan’s 30 kills. Hannah Grant earned her fourth consecutive double-digit digs match after recording 11.

The Maize and Blue started out strong going head-to-head with the Gophers, but Minnesota (8-5, 3-2 Big Ten) went on a 9-0 run to pull to a 15-5 lead after six consecutive Wolverine errors. The Gophers never looked back, taking the first set 25-12.

Minnesota jumped out to a 3-0 second-set lead before a slam by Pertofsky. Jess Robinson took over for the Wolverines, collecting a solo stuff block and a kill to pull Michigan within one. U-M took its first lead of the set at 10-9 after a Pertofsky tip over the block. The Gophers went on a 4-0 run late to pull ahead of Michigan 21-16.
