Michigan State Defeated On the Road at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Meeting intrastate rival Michigan for the second time this season, the Michigan State volleyball team was defeated 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 26-24) on Sunday at the Crisler Center. The Spartans showed grit in set three battling back from a six-point deficit to tie the set at 24-24.
 
Fifth year Rebecka Poljan played well in the final Michigan match of her career posting 10 kills on .500 hitting along with a team-high four blocks. Sophomore Aliyah Moore and freshman Selin Aslayan each had eight kills for MSU, while freshman Maradith O’Gorman had seven. Graduate student Zoe Nunez led the team with a match-high 19 assists, while junior Nalani Iosia had a match-best 18 digs along with seven assists.
 
Michigan pulled ahead in set one using a 9-3 run mid-way through the set, taking a nine-point lead. Michigan State responded with some grit, using a 5-1 run to build momentum late in the opening frame. MSU’s late run cut the Wolverine advantage to five. Four Spartans had a pair of kills in the first set (Aslayan, O’Gorman, Moore, Poljan).
 
Set two was a near carbon copy of set one, with the Spartans keeping the set close in the early stages. A Wolverine attacking error tied the score up at 10-10 before Michigan went on a 7-1 run to build its lead. O’Gorman finished the set with four kills, including a pair late as the Spartans tried to close the gap.
 
Michigan State held an early 8-5 lead in set three, using a 4-0 run and a pair of points from Poljan. The Wolverines responded in a big way however going on a 10-1 run to take a 15-9 lead over the Spartans at the mid-way point. Michigan State didn’t back…
