Michigan State’s Overmann Tabbed To College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 Class of 2023

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State  Assistant Director of Athletic Communications Austin Overmann has been named a recipient of the College Sports Communicators 30 Under 30 Class of 2023.

The honor recognizes emerging athletics communications professionals at all levels of college sports in strategic, creative and digital spaces. Overmann is the lone recipient from a Big Ten institution. Of nearly 130 nominations submitted, this year’s class includes 14 members from four different levels of NCAA Division I, three Division II members, six Division III members, five NAIA members, one member from a Canadian institution, and one two-year college member.  Nominees must be 29 years old or younger on December 31, 2023 and a current 2023-24 CSC member.

“Austin is incredibly deserving of this recognition,” said Matt Larson, Michigan State Associate AD/Communications. “Now in his second stint with Spartan Athletics, he’s showed tremendous growth in a relatively short period of time. He does an excellent job of supporting the volleyball and softball programs, implementing innovative measures to promote his teams, while also providing all the traditional communications assistance. His ability to develop relationships with his student-athletes allows him to better tell their story. He’s a team player, and makes the entire unit better by bringing new ideas to a group of seasoned professionals.”

Overmann is in his second year back at Michigan State, after returning in November 2021 and is in his second year as a full-time staff member in 2023, working with the volleyball and softball programs, as well as assisting in updating and maintaining MSU’s website, MSUSpartans.com.

“I’m incredibly honored to be named to the second-ever CSC 30 Under 30 class. It’s humbling to be recognized by my peers so early on in my professional career,” Overmann said about the CSC award. “I’m fortunate to work with amazing student-athletes and coaches at Michigan State that make this job rewarding in many ways. I feel that this honor is due in part to them as much as it is to my own hard work. Starting as a student…
