Senior women’s volleyball defensive specialist/libero Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) and sophomore football tailback Ethan Gallo (Slate Hill/Minisink Valley) have been selected as the SUNY Cortland Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22.
Mikenzie averaged 6.2 digs per set in a 2-1 weekend for the Red Dragons at the Messiah Invitational. She matched her career high with 31 digs and added three aces in a four-set win over the host Falcons and totaled 21 digs and two aces in a loss to Gettysburg.
Ethan rushed for a career-high 165 yards and three touchdowns on 28 carries (5.9 per rush) in a 40-38, come-from-behind victory at 11th-ranked Susquehanna. Gallo scored each of the Red Dragons’ final three TDs. He scored from nine yards out to put the Red Dragons on top, 33-31, and he helped seal the win with a 1-yard TD rush with 2:20 left.
