Cortland senior defensive specialist/libero Mikenzie Martens (Carthage) has been named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women’s Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week for the sixth time this season. Her latest honor is for the week ending Nov. 10.
Martens averaged 6.4 digs per set in two Cortland wins to close out the regular season. She finished with 23 digs in a three-set sweep of nationally 19th-ranked Ithaca and had 22 digs in a four-set win over Nazareth, also at Ithaca. Martens also had 40 service receptions with no errors over the two matches.
Cortland (24-5, 9-0 SUNYAC) will host the SUNYAC tournament semifinals and finals this weekend. The top-seeded Red Dragons play fourth-seeded New Paltz Friday at 4 p.m. and second-seeded Buffalo State and third-seeded Morrisville play at 7 p.m., with the finals set for Saturday at 5 p.m.
