PITTSBURGH – Graduate middle blocker Emma Monks and freshman right side Olivia Babcock have been named ACC Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively. This is the first ACC honor for Monks and the second straight for Babcock.
Monks fired on the offensive and defensive end for the Panthers this past weekend. She registered six kills on a .500 hitting percentage along with a season-high seven blocks against No. 24 Marquette on Friday night. Monks continued her impressive play against Loyola Chicago, recording seven kills on a blistering .667 hitting percentage, also adding five blocks and two digs. On the weekend she averaged 2.0 blocks per set and hit .579.
Babcock stayed hot this weekend, killing nine balls against No. 24 Marquette on a .438 hitting percentage. In the match she also recorded three blocks and three digs. Against Loyola Chicago, Babcock paced the team with 12 kills on only 22 swings, hitting .364 while adding four digs and five blocks.
