Morgahn Fingall Named AVCA Division I National Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – On Tuesday, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced senior Morgahn Fingall as its Division I National Player of the Week.
 
It is the first national player of the week honor for the Fairfax, Virginia, native and comes after earning SEC Player and Offensive Player of the Week accolades on Monday.

“We are incredibly proud of this recognition for Morgahn,” head coach Eve Rackham Watt said. “She was tremendous this past weekend and has worked really hard to become the type of player she is. Morgahn is in elite company, as this is a very difficult award to win. We are excited for her and our entire team.”

 

The right-side attacker had a spectacular weekend as she helped lead the Lady Vols to a trio of sweeps over New Hampshire, Norfolk State and The Citadel at the Rocky Top Classic.

 

Fingall led the charge in attack as she hit .488 with 47 kills and just five errors over nine sets of action. The lefty averaged 5.22 kills per set and 6.61 points per set during the tournament. Against Norfolk State, she was particularly effective, scoring 14 kills – committing zero errors – and notching a career-high five service aces. On defense, she finished the weekend with 17 digs and 12 total blocks.

 

Through the first three weeks of the season, Fingall has totaled 145 kills and is averaging an SEC-leading 4.39 kills per set. Her per set average also ranks 18th nationally.
