Mustangs Gallop Past Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.– The Elizabethtown men’s volleyball returned home Tuesday evening to host Stevenson. The Mustangs defeated the Blue Jays, 3-1. 

Set scores were, 19-25, 25-13, 20-25, 18-25. Logan Smith led the way with 12 kills while hitting .381 and recording four block assists. Arun Gopinath totaled 11 kills (.286) and grabbed six digs. Patrick Neyer tallied 25 assists and seven digs while Dustin Hagin totaled 11 digs. 

In the first set, Stevenson led, 14-13 after the two teams traded points early through the set. A 5-1 run put the Mustangs up 19-14 to lead by five points. A block by Josh McCoy and Smith brought the Blue Jays within four of Stevenson but the Mustangs were able to come out on top, 25-19. 

Etown took control in set two leading 13-4 after rattling off seven straight points with the help of Smith, Mason Boyer, and Gopinath. The Blue Jays would go up 20-7 following some Mustang errors. Stevenson was able to come back within eight after tallying five in a row but the Blue Jays grabbed the final three to win, 25-13. 

Set three started close as Elizabethtown led, 11-10 after McCoy smacked down a kill. Stevenson went on a 7-1 to take the lead at 17-12. From there the Mustangs had control and went up 22-14 after two Jays errors sandwiched an ace. Etown ended the set on a 5-1 run with kills from Smith, Boyer, and Braydon Ambruster but it wasn’t enough as Stevenson took the set, 25-20.
