Nationally Ranked Eagles Clip Blue Jays

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – In the final home of 2022, the Elizabethtown College men’s volleyball team fell to #12 Juniata, 3-0, in Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) action Tuesday night.

With the loss, the Blue Jays fall to 13-11 overall and 2-6 in league play, while the Eagles improve to 23-5 on the season and 6-2 in the CVC.

Junior Tony Camillo led Etown, hitting .818 with nine kills. Classmates Blake Hildebrand and Steve Swain each finished with eight kills, while sophomore Nate Seeger tallied 26 assists.

Junior Will Phelan (.563), sophomore Tyler Goldsborough (.471), and sophomore Luke Hoffman (.615) each finished with 10 kills apiece. Goldsborough added six aces and sophomore Reese Ganter tallied 37 assists.

After Juniata took the first two sets in dominating fashion, the Blue Jays attempted to bounce back in the third. Trailing 17-14 midway through the set, Etown closed within one after back-to-back kills from Swain. The Eagles, however, used a 6-1 run to take a 23-17 lead and looked primed to complete the sweep. The Blue Jays answered with a 6-1 run of its own, capped off by an ace from sophomore Nick Chapman, to close within one again (24-23). That would be the end of the rally for Etown, as a kill from Hoffman ended the set to give Juniata the sweep with the 25-23 victory.

Elizabethtown closes out the 2022 season on Saturday, April 2 at Drew. Opening serve is set for 11 a.m.
