NEPAL POLICE CLUB TRIUMPH AS CAVA WOMEN’S CLUB CHAMPIONS

Male, Maldives, September 21, 2024 Nepal Police Club underlined their domination of the 2024 CAVA Women’s Club Volleyball Championship after a sensational straight-set victory over Humo VC of Uzbekistan in the final showdown in front of a huge crowd of over 2,000 fans at the Social Center Indoor Hall here on Saturday for their remarkable unbeaten record in the one-week championship.

Nepal Police Club’s dominance was evident as they did not drop a match to their respective rivals en route to sealing the deal. In the Saturday’s gold-medal match, the Nepalese side overpowered Humo VC 25-16, 25-22, 25-23, with Chaudhari Saraswoti leading all scorers with 15 points including 13 attacks from 28 attempts.

No player of Humo VC reached double digits in scoring against the opponents. Boymirzaeva Dilnoza contributed 9 points from 7 attacks, one block and one ace on the team’s loss.

Unbeaten Nepal Police Club dominated the blocking game, getting 11 stuffs to Humo VC’s 2, and also did a very good job in kills (42 to 31), but Humo VC fared well in aces (5 to 4) aside from benefitting from more opponent errors (23 to 18).

The championship match was graced by several dignitaries including Chief Guest, Honorable Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, Minister of Housing, Land, and Urban Development of the Maldives, and President of Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA) and Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) Mr Mohamed Latheef, himself AVC Executive Vice President and AVC Zonal Executive Vice President representing Central Zone.

Other notable attendees were VAM Vice President for Volleyball Mr. Ali Latheef, VAM General Secretary Mr Mohamed Saeed, Uzbekistan Volleyball Federation Vice President Mr Jamshid Fayziev, and Nepal Volleyball Association Vice President Mr Bharat Bahadur Shah.

Bronze Medal Thriller

Earlier in the day, Club Wamco of the Maldives pulled off an incredible comeback to defeat Sri Lanka Air Force in a five-set thriller.

After losing the first two sets, Club Wamco rallied to win 11-25, 17-25, 25-13, 25-23, 15-13. Thai player Kuttika Kaewpin was the star of the match, contributing an impressive 28 points for Club Wamco’s victory.

5th-6th Place Playoff

In the battle for 5th place, Maldives Police Club narrowly edged out VC Diamed of Tajikistan in another five-set match (24-26, 25-11, 24-26, 25-21, 15-11), leaving the Tajik team winless in the tournament.
