No. 1 Pitt Heads North to Play Boston College and Syracuse


PITTSBURGH – The No. 1 Pitt volleyball team (12-0, 2-0 ACC) prepares to play Boston College (7-7, 0-2 ACC) on the road on Friday at 7 p.m. The Panthers will wrap up the weekend in New York as they take on Syracuse (12-2, 0-2 ACC) on Sunday at 11 a.m. 

The Panthers look to continue their dominance in the overall series against Boston College as they have won 38 of the 39 contests. The last time the Eagles defeated Pitt was in 2000. Pitt defeated Boston College last season in Pittsburgh in three sets behind Torrey Stafford and Olivia Babcock’s 27 combined kills and 11 digs.

Similarly, Pitt defeated Syracuse in the first meeting with the Orange last season in three sets. Blaire Bayless notched a career-high eight kills on a blistering .667 hitting percentage. Torrey Stafford also led the charge after nearly registering a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs. 

The Panthers recorded their second sweep of Syracuse in their second and final meeting in the 2023 season. With the win, Pitt captured its second straight ACC Championship. 

LOOKING FOR WIN 300

• Head Coach Dan Fisher is one win away from reaching 300 wins at the helm of the Pitt volleyball team. 

• Fisher now has the most all-time wins at Pitt with 299, passing Shelton Collier with 295 wins (1980-1988).

WELL-OILED MACHINE

• Pitt ranks among the top ten in the country for hitting percentage (1st – .370), opponent hitting percentage (3rd – .115), aces per set (4th – 2.25), kills per set (5th – 14.36) and assists per set (9th – 13.31).

DYNAMIC DUO

Torrey Stafford and Olivia Babcock have impressed in their sophomore campaigns after earning All-American status as rookies.

• Stafford ranks among the top 20 in the nation in points per set (16th – 5.09) and kills per set (T19th – 4.41) while Babcock ranks 4th nationally in points per set (5.62) and is tied for 19th with Stafford in kills per set (4.41).

• Babcock or Stafford have either led or tied for the team high in kills in each match this season.

PANTHERS STING YELLOW JACKETS

• Pitt dominated in a 3-0 sweep of then No. 13 Georgia Tech, holding the Yellow Jackets to less than 20 points in each set.
