Des Moines, IA – Grand View men’s volleyball would face off with impressive Masters University in a 3-setter, where the Vikings would come up short by scores of, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.
Set 1: Grand View University 22 | The Master’s University 25
The Vikings saw their first points of the game come from a Daniel Galili (SO/Shomrat, Israel) Kill assisted by Zeo Meyer (JR/Wheaton, IL ). Which was quickly followed by a Bayron Valdez (JR/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) ace. After a handful of kills from The Masters, Daniel Wong (SR/Campbell, CA ) was able to get the Vikings back on track with a pair of aces. This would help spark a run for the Vikings putting them up 14-10. After trading points back and forth for a few possessions Grand View took a timeout late to prepare for one last push, Galili gave the Vikings two late kills, but it wasn’t enough as the Vikings dropped the first set of the night.
Set 2: Grand View University 19 | The Master’s University 25
The Vikings came out swinging in the second set as they quickly jumped out to a 4-2 lead thanks to some great play from Valdez. Soon to follow was another pair of kills from Galili assisted by Meyer again. The Vikings were the beneficiaries of some errors from the Mustangs helping keep the game close. Followed by Brendan Edgington (SR/Ankeny, IA ) first Kill of the match leading to Valdez and Wong both adding kills. The Vikings put together a short run before The Masters were able to put the second set away.
Set 3: Grand View University 21 | The Master’s University 25
As they headed into the third set of the evening the Vikings had to set the tone early and they did as they quickly jumped out to an 8-4 lead thanks to 4 points from Galili. Valdez followed up his teammates scoring burst with his own 2 kills. The Vikings weren’t just scoring on offense as Wong and Edgington combined for a block to bring the Vikings within 1, 16-15. The Vikings fought hard after this rally but the Masters were able to pull away late and secure the third set giving them the victory.

The Vikings relied heavily on Daniel Galili as he led the team with 14 total kills and 4 serving aces, followed by Bayron Valdez with 10 kills at .529%.
