No. 11 Bears Sweep Texas, Oregon



Cal Extends Win Streak to Nine Matches

HONOLULU, Hawai’i – The win streak continued for the No. 11 California beach volleyball team Saturday afternoon with a pair of sweeps over Texas and Oregon. Winners of nine straight, the Golden Bears now boast a 10-2 record and are 4-0 at Hawai’i’s Queen’s Cup.

Cal’s sixth 5-0 sweep of the season came in its first ever meeting with the Texas Longhorns as all five Bear pairs won in straight sets. Senior Ainsley Radell and freshman Gia Fisher earned their first win as a team on court two 21-14, 21-10 to get the Bears on the board. Junior Ava Mann and freshman Marilu Pally made it a 2-0 match with a quick 21-9, 21-10 victory on court five. The clincher came on court four as juniors Brooke Buchner and Natalie Martin picked up their sixth win of the season 21-9, 21-18.
 
Junior Maya Gessner and sophomore Ella Dreibholz got it done on court one and senior Lexi McKeown and sophomore Alex Young-Gomez closed the match out with a win on three.

The Bears and Ducks met for the second time in less than a week, but the result was the same as Cal won every set on its way to its 10th win of the season and ninth straight.
 
Buchner and Martin got their team on the board first this time with a 21-12, 21-6 win on court five and McKeown and Young-Gomez followed with a 21-12, 21-9 court four victory to give Cal a 2-0 lead. After resting earlier in the day, junior Liz Waters-Leiga and Sierra Caffo reentered the lineup on court three and sealed the dual with a dominant 21-7, 21-11 win.
