COLUMBUS, Ohio — No. 11 Georgia Tech volleyball bested a top-15 Big Ten foe for a third straight match with a 3-1 triumph (25-22, 24-26, 25-18, 25-20) over No. 12 Ohio State on Saturday night in the Covelli Center.
The Yellow Jackets (4-0) defeated the Buckeyes (3-2) for the second time in as many days as they earned three straight top-15 wins for the first time in program history. Just four matches into the season, Tech’s 2023 squad becomes the fourth in school history to earn at least three ranked wins in a single season. Mirroring the first match against the Buckeyes, the Yellow Jackets used significant advantages in hitting percentage (.212-.127) and blocks (10-5) to cruise to victory.
Freshman outside hitter Larissa Mendes led the White and Gold with her first collegiate double double by way of 16 kills and 14 digs, while senior pin Bianca Bertolino followed close behind with 13 kills and nine digs. Defensively, three Jackets added four or more blocks in Liv Mogridge (one solo, four assisted), DeAndra Pierce (four assisted) and Bella D’Amico (one solo, three assisted). D’Amico also ran the point with 41 assists and eight digs, while Mogridge was Tech’s most efficient attacker with nine kills at a .533 clip. Both of the White and Gold’s dig leaders tied career marks in the category as well as Tamara Otene chalked up 17 while Paola Pimentel piled on 23.
