ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 12 Lewis University men’s volleyball team swept Kentucky State Saturday (Jan. 20) at Neil Carey Arena. The Flyers dominated many statistical categories, with a .556 attack percentage to -.019 for the Thorobreads and an 11-0 advantage in service aces.

SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: Lewis 25, Kentucky State 13
The match started with back-and-forth action until the score was tied at four. From that point, Lewis went on an 8-3 run with three kills and two service aces.
After Kentucky State took the next point, the Flyers scored five in a row with DeGraaf recording two kills and Drolsum adding an ace. The Thorobreads took three of the next five points before Lewis got going again with a 4-0 run.
An attack error by Kentucky State ended the first set, as the Flyers hit .529 and held the Thorobreads to just .053.
Set 2: Lewis 25, Kentucky State 9
After Kentucky State took the first point, Lewis then took nine of the next 10 including three kills, two blocks, and two aces by Drolsum. That was followed by both sides trading points until the score stood at 14-7 in favor of the Flyers.
Then, Lewis went on a 5-0 run including three kills. The Flyers took another 5-0 run to finish the set with three aces by Sweitzer in the scoring burst. Lewis hit a phenomenal .706 in the set.
Set 3: Lewis 25, Kentucky State 14
Both sides struggled with serving early in the third set, as nine of the first 14 points came via service error. A solo block by the Thorobreads’ Trent Findley cut the Lewis lead to 8-7, but then the Flyers got rolling.
Lewis went on a 5-0 run including back-to-back kills from Tate Sandvig (Boone, Iowa/) before surrendering four of the next seven points to KSU. Then, the Flyers earned a 4-0 run with back-to-back blocks and an ace by Davis to push the lead to 20-11.
Kentucky State took three of the next four points, but Lewis finished the match on a 4-0 surge with a solo block…
