UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – No. 14 Penn State Women’s Volleyball makes the trip to Madison for the NCAA Regional for the second-straight year when it travels to take on No. 3 Wisconsin in the Regional Semifinal on Thursday. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at the UW Field House and will air live on ESPN2.
The winner of Thursday’s match will take on the winner between Oregon and Purdue in the Regional Final on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
SERIES HISTORY – WISCONSIN
• Penn State is 50-14 in the all-time series with Wisconsin.The teams first played in 1986.
• The Nittany Lions won the most recent match in the series 3-1 at Rec Hall during the regular season. Camryn Hannah hit .375 with 19 kills in that win. Mac Podraza had a double-double with 51 assists and 13 digs, while Jess Mruzik posted a double-double with 16 kills and 16 digs.
• Penn State is 19-11 against the Badgers in Madison.
• Zoe Weatherington has averaged 2.54 kills/set in three career matches against Wisconsin. She hit .409 with 14 kills in a five-set match against the Badgers at Rec Hall last season and had 10 kills in a four-set win at Rec Hall this season. Maddy Bilinovic has reached double-digit digs in four of her five career matches against Wisconsin.
HOW WE GOT HERE
• Penn State received an at-large bid and a No. 5 seed in the Madison Region after going 21-8 overall and 15-5 while tying for third in the Big Ten.
• The Nittany Lions overcame early struggles in a 3-1 win over Yale in the NCAA First Round. The match was tied 1-1 and the Bulldogs led 7-0 in the third set before Penn State rallied.
• Penn State won a thrilling five-set match with a 15-13 score in the final set at fourth-seeded Kansas in the NCAA Second Round. The Jayhawks led 11-9 in the fifth set. The Nittany Lions came back and eventually won on an ace by Maddy Bilinovic.
PENN STATE IN REGIONAL SEMIFINAL
• The Nittany Lions are 20-14 all-time in the Regional Semifinal (Round of 16). They have beaten 19 different teams in the round, including Wisconsin twice.
• Counting this season, Penn State has played in the Regional Semifinal in 20 of the last 21 years.
