No. 18 Arizona Wins Thriller at No. 17 Pepperdine

MALIBU – The 18th-ranked Arizona Beach Volleyball team battled the steady rain and No. 17 Pepperdine on Friday afternoon and came out with a 3-2 victory over the Waves.

It was Pepperdine (3-2) that jumped out to the quick 2-0 lead with wins on courts two and four. But the No. 5 pair for the Wildcats of Miranda Erro and Annie Kost captured a two set win to cut the UA deficit to 2-1.

The attention shifted to court 1 where Arizona’s senior duo of Sarah Blacker and Alex Parkhurst were in a battle with Pepperdine’s McKenna Thomas and Alexus McLeod. Arizona (6-2) took the first set, 21-16, but then dropped the second set, 17-21, before rallying to win the back and forth final set, 16-14.

With the match tied a 2-2, all eyes went to court three where Grace Cook and Alana Rennie dropped the opening set, 21-19. They rebounded to take set two and then finished off the match and the dual in Arizona’s favor with a 15-11 victory in the final set.

The Wildcats will be back in action at Pepperdine on Saturday to take on the University of San Francisco at 11:00 a.m. Pacific time. Live scoring will be available at arizonastats.com.
