No. 18 Lewis Women's Volleyball Takes Both Games at Colorado Premier Challenge Saturday


Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENVER — The No. 18 Lewis University women’s volleyball team finished Day 2 of the Colorado Premier Challenge Saturday after defeating No. 16 Angelo State in three sets and Azusa Pacific, who is receiving votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll in four.

SET BREAKDOWN vs. No. 16 Angelo State

FIRST SET:  No. 18 Lewis 25, No. 16 Angelo State 20

  • Lewis went up 4-1 early in the first set before Angelo State came back and tied it at 4-all.
  • Both teams went back-and-forth then the Rams went up 13-8 midway through the opening set. 
  • ASU was ahead 15-11 then the Flyers went on a 7-1 run to go up 18-16. 
  • The Rams scored the ensuing point then Lewis rattled off six straight after a service ace by Freppon and Schlechte.
  • Angelo State tried to rally and come from behind after scoring the next three points then Freppon gave Lewis the first set after recording a kill. 

SECOND SET: No. 18 Lewis 25, No. 16 Angelo State 15

  • Lewis went up 7-3 early after a kill by Stefanski then Angelo State looked to come back.
  • The Flyers scored four in a row to go up 13-7 after back-to-back kills by Stefanski and Schlechte
  • Angelo State made it down to 18-14 in favor of Lewis then the Flyers went on a 7-1 rally the rest of the second set to win which was capped off by kills by Schlechte and Van Loo.

THIRD SET: No. 18 Lewis 25, No. 16 Angelo State 16

  • Lewis started the third set with three straight kills from Van Loo, Freppon and Ray
  • ASU eventually tied the third set at 7-all before the Flyers rallied off four straight points capped off by a block by Taki and Stefanski.
  • The Rams cut it down to 13-12 but that was the closest ASU got as the Flyers controlled the rest of the third set.
  • Van Loo recorded a kill and Ray picked up a block to end the third set and the match with the Flyers winning 3-0.
