SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Claire Chaussee and Aiko Jones each had 13 kills to lead the No. 2-ranked Louisville volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-18, 25-17 win over Syracuse Sunday afternoon in ACC play.
Louisville moves to 15-1 and notched its fifth sweep en route to a 6-0 mark in the league. The Cardinals hit .449 as a team with an ace and six blocks. Setter Raquel Lazaro had a match-high 32 assists and added two kills and a block. Libero Elena Scott had 10 digs and eight assists.
The Cardinals extend their unbeaten status in the ACC to 35 straight, dating back to the loss to Pitt on Oct. 23, 2020.
Syracuse was paced by Polina Shemanova’s 13 kills. She added an ace, a block and team-high 10 digs.
UofL returns home next weekend to host Virginia Tech on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. and Wake Forest on Oc.t 15 at 1 p.m. in L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.

In the first set, UofL used a 4-0 run under the power of Claire Chaussee’s serving to go up 9-5. Syracuse came within two at 12-10 on a kill by Viktoriia Lokhmanchuk but the Cards stretched their lead to seven at 18-12 resulting from a serving run by Aiko Jones. After SU called timeout at 22-14, the Orange would score just twice more as Louisville rolled to the 24-16 win. Hitting at .500, the Cards’ firepower was too much for the Orange. UofL had three blocks and Chaussee had seven kills on 12 swings and no errors to lead the Cards.
