MIAMI, Fla. — Outside hitter Claire Chaussee had 14 kills to lead the No. 2-ranked University of Louisville to a 25-12, 26-24, 25-23 sweep of Miami in the Atlantic Coast Conference opening match Friday night in Coral Gables.
With the win, the Cardinals (10-1, 1-0) extend their unbeaten streak in the ACC to 30 which is the nation’s second-longest winning streak against conference opponents. The last team to beat Louisville was Pitt on Oct. 23, 2020.
Louisville hit .329 as a team with six aces and nine blocks. Filling in for All-American Anna DeBeer, outside hitter Nena Mbonu had eight kills on 11 swings to hit .636 and added a pair of blocks. Amaya Tillman had seven kills and six blocks. Setter Raquel Lazaro had 36 assists, an ace and three blocks. Aiko Jones was the second leading scorer with eight kills, an ace and three blocks.
Miami moves to 7-5 on the season as the Canes hit just .075 with four aces and six blocks. The Hurricane offense was led by Flormarie Heredia Colon, who had eight kills and two blocks. Janice Leao added five kills and four blocks.
The Cardinals head to Tallahassee for a Sunday match with the Seminoles that will be televised on ESPN at 3 p.m. ET. It will be Louisville’s second regular appearance on the flagship station.
